Yarn Winter Hat & Snowflake Garland

Our Home

1 Jan

Hey guys! Wow.. I know I haven’t blogged in awhile. I just feel like I’ve been so busy! We’ve been house hunting, then the holidays, and I was out of commission because of my foot surgery October and most of November! So one of my New Year’s resolutions is to get my butt back on track for the blog! For the next few weeks I am going to be sharing some DIY winter decor crafts. Happy New Year by the way! The first craft I am sharing with y’all is this super cute winter hat and snowflake garland made out of yarn!

My husband’s aunt made these hats as ornaments and gave them to a bunch of us! I thought they were so adorable, so I looked them up on Pinterest. We don’t have a fireplace mantle to decorate, so I have to put my kookoo ideas to work. In our apartment, we have this old window that is just as great and works for now!

Not only is this project super easy, but it will cost you about $9 (depending on what type of yarn and how many colors). I chose to do blue, gray, and white, and the yarn bundles were 2.99 on Amazon! I’ve included a link to order them below. You will also need some toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls. To make the winter hats, this tutorial will help you here. It is super easy once you get the hang of it, but it’s a little time consuming. The snowflake pom-poms are quick and easy and you can learn how to make those on this blog.

Once you have the hats and snowflakes made, you’re ready to make the garland! I measured another piece of yarn for my mantle, then I slid the hats and snowflakes on that piece and styled them how I wanted. So easy right?! You will have a ton of left over yarn for other crafts to come, and if you have the yarn on hand, this project could be free! These little hats and snowflake pom-poms could be used for so many other cute crafts!
I finally got my new camera in October and I’m still playing with it and learning how to use it, but I am just loving how all my pictures are coming out so far!

I would love to know what you guys think of my garland idea! I’ve been trying to think outside the box a little bit lately. What are some other DIY winter decor crafts y’all have done? I would love it if you followed me on Instagram and like my Facebook page. I’ll be posting another winter craft sometime next week, stay tuned friends! Xo
